Adelante Familia

Our own Flor Giusti has been selected as one of the three finalists to be portrayed in the national campaign “All-Stars among Us” conducted by People Magazine.  The finalists have been chosen for their significant contribution to improve the lives of the people in their communities.  Being portrayed in People Magazine will bring a huge visibility to the work Floor and the staff do at Adelante Familia on behalf of Latina women affected by domestic violence.  The final winner will be decided by popular vote.

It’s easy!  Just go the Orioles link in this webpage http://www.mlb.com/peopleallstarsamongus/#  and VOTE FOR FLOR! Spread the word and invite all your friends to vote, too. You can vote many times! Make this campaign, your campaign.  There are only a few days left before the deadline closes!

The women Adelante Familia serves face the double challenge of being in an abusive relationship and not having full access to social services due to their immigration status and other cultural sensitivities.  Your vote will contribute to bring hope to the life of these women.  The more votes Flor receives, the more opportunities for the program to be put in the national eye thanks to the high national and international distribution of People Magazine.

Adelante Familia is a bilingual program of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore dedicated to the eradication of domestic violence in the Latino community.

Adelante Familia serves Spanish-speaking immigrants living in Central Maryland who are victims, or at risk of being victims, or are perpetrators of domestic violence.

Adelante Familia provides comprehensive services for Spanish speaking victims of domestic violence and their children; abuser intervention services for Spanish-speaking perpetrators; and education on the dynamics of domestic violence to service providers and community members.

Our Mission:
The mission of Adelante Familia is to eradicate domestic abuse in Baltimore’s Latino community by making a long-term commitment to address the roots of victimization and violence.

Our Goal:
Adelante Familia strives to eliminate the incidence of violence, reduce tolerance to violence, promote healthy families, and prevent another generation of victims and abusers.

Key To Our Success:
Adelante Familia is a women-centered advocacy model with a focus on providing comprehensive, linguistically and culturally-specific services as they pertain to case management, individual and group counseling, support, education, and advocacy.  Because of the specific needs and realities that the Spanish-speaking victims face, Adelante Familia has always provided full services, regardless of whether or not the woman chooses to stay in the relationship.  Our model focuses on securing the safety of the women and children within the context of promoting empowerment, individual responsibility and healing.

Adelante Familia  is the only comprehensive domestic violence program providing specialized domestic violence intervention services for Spanish-speaking immigrants.  Through the passion and commitment of dedicated staff and the support of community partners, Adelante Familia is recognized both on a local, regional and national level as an innovative and reputable domestic violence prevention program, as well as a critical link in the safety net of services for domestic violence victims.

Adelante Familia was designed by native-Spanish speaking professionals with years of experience serving the Latino immigrant community in the area of domestic violence treatment and prevention.  It is specifically geared to meet the unique needs of this population with a clear understanding of the complex circumstances that underlie domestic violence in the immigrant community.

Adelante Familia attributes much of its success to our depth of understanding of the realities and barriers that Spanish-speaking immigrant victims face, the cultural pressures that sometimes present greater obstacles to victims, but also the cultural values that could function as sources of strengths for women who want to provide a safe environment for themselves and their families.
