Cottage Avenue Community
Transitional housing for families in Baltimore

Cottage Avenue Community is an innovative transitional housing program for homeless families in the Park Heights area of Baltimore, Maryland.  Through case management and counseling, the program is designed to help them make the transition from emergency shelters to permanent housing and self-sufficiency.  Many of the families that come to Cottage Avenue have one or more challenges in areas such as employment, education, substance abuse, or physical and mental health that prevent them from achieving independence on their own.

A neighborhood setting of renovated single-family row houses helps the 15 resident families to feel a part of the community and to develop supportive relationships with other families nearby.  To assist participants in reaching their goals, Cottage Avenue Community families participate in support groups, life skills development, parenting classes and budgeting.  They also have access to the nearby services of St. Vincent de Paul's St. Ambrose Center including: employment counseling, job skills training, food pantry, and after-school and summer programs for children and teens.
