Program Volunteers

Your donation of your time and talents helps us to provide essential services throughout the year. Here are some opportunities to volunteer at our programs -

Feed the Hungry
Help us to fill hearts and stomachs with healthy and delicious food for residents and guests of our programs.

Feed the Hungry

Sarah’s Hope, an emergency shelter serving women and children, serves 3 meals a day to approximately 75 residents. Volunteers are needed to prepare dinners or bag lunches to be dropped off at the shelter. Hot breakfasts can be prepared and served on site. Individuals or groups of 2-3 volunteers are needed to serve the evening meal. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old.

Beans & Bread Center offers a free mid-day meal on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Individuals or groups of up to 7 people are needed to serve meals from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Volunteers can also prepare casseroles, bag lunches (needed on Wednesdays) or fresh baked goods to be dropped off at Beans & Bread.

Youth Place offers a mid-day meal to students in an after-school program. Individuals are needed Monday through Friday to help serve meals from 2 pm to 4 pm. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Learn to Earn, a workforce development program that helps Baltimore area residents gain the education, employment, and life skills necessary to meet their individual goals and enhance their employment potential, needs assistance with their pantry. Volunteers are needed on the last Monday of every month to pick up pantry donations from surrounding churches, and individual or groups or 3-4 volunteers are needed to help organize the pantry.

Be on the Front Lines at Our Programs

Be the face of our programs – greet guests, assist people seeking information about our programs and provide essential administrative support to our staff.

St. Vincent de Paul Head Start provides 3, 4 and 5 year-olds with pre-school programs to low-income families. Front desk volunteers are needed at all 7 sites located throughout the city. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday during the hours of 8 am to 4 pm. Half day shifts are available. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially needed at our Southeast Baltimore sites.

Your experience and knowledge can assist our clients with finding and maintaining employment! Assist people seeking jobs by helping them write resumes, identify potential job opportunities and prepare for interviews.

Learn to Earn is a workforce development program that helps Baltimore area residents gain the education, employment, and life skills necessary to meet their individual goals and enhance their employment potential. Volunteers are needed to administer placement tests and support job seekers. Volunteers are needed Mondays at 10 am and 6 pm. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Teach & Tutor

Give the gift of learning by volunteering in a classroom or providing one-on-one tutoring.

Teach and tutor

St. Vincent de Paul Head Start provides 3, 4 and 5 year-olds with pre-school programs to low-income families. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday to assist in the classroom. Volunteers help with breakfast and lunch, engage in educational related activities with the children and have fun. Full and half-day shifts are available and volunteers are asked to commit to one-day a week for at least a semester. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Volunteers are needed to tutor job seekers in GED prep and literacy.  Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday during the day, and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 pm to 8pm. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

St. Vincent de Paul Head Start is in need of a Disabilities Coordinator Assistant to work at all 7 locations assisting the Disabilities Coordinator in development and implementation of educational therapies for preschoolers. Work one-on-one with children and their families in therapeutic and educational activities. Some experience required. The hours are Mon-Fri, half day shifts available. Flexibility a must! Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Be a Life Skills or Parenting Instrutor

Your experience and knowledge can help our residents learn important life and parenting skills as they become self-sufficient. Training and curriculum are provided.

Life Skills

Sarah’s Hope offers shelter and support services to homeless women and their children, helping them quickly regain permanent housing, and achieve long-term self-sufficiency. Volunteers are needed to teach life skills and parenting classes to the mothers living at the shelter. Volunteers must commit to teach a weekly session for at least 8 weeks. Volunteers can work in teams of 2. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

Volunteers are needed at our Head Start programs to provide parenting and life skills training for the parents and caregivers of the pre-schoolers. Sessions times are flexible and can be scheduled any time during school hours. Spanish-speaking volunteers are needed at our Southeast Baltimore locations. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

Provide Life-Giving Resources to People in Need

Provide critical support and referral services to people in need. Training and referral information are provided.

Beans & Bread is a day resource center for people who are homeless located in the Fells Point area. Volunteers are needed to conduct intake appointments, provide referral information and assist guests in filling out forms for housing and assistance. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. Full and half-day shifts are available. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
