Volunteer by Program: Prison Outreach

Adult men and women are encouraged to become involved in visiting persons in prisons and detention centers. Volunteers can also help with special programs including: prayer/pen partner program, quilting program, alternatives to violence programs, family programs or the storybook program in which incarcerated parents read and record storybooks to send home to their children to listen to.

Current volunteer opportunities with Prison Outreach include:

Volunteers are needed for the Journey to Peace program that will be presented in Hagerstown the evening of April 16 and all day on April 17.   Program topics include: crime and its impact on victims, responsibility, accountability, Faith, admitting wrong-doing, repentance, and forgiveness. Volunteers are needed to be discussion leaders, co-presenters, and greeters. Volunteers are needed to assist monthly in Exit Orientations that inform prisoners of help available to them when they return to society.  Volunteer would accompany a staff member until she/he could minister independently with other service providers. Veteran volunteers are needed to work with veterans groups at Western Correctional Institution and North Branch Correctional Institution, both in Cumberland, Maryland. Contact Sr. Dolores Chepiga to volunteer or for more information at 410-662-0500, ext. 208 or dchepiga@vincentbaltimore.org.
