Future
volunteer opportunities at Sarah’s Hope include:
Daily
Support Volunteers—Provides assistance
with basic services. Monitors reception desk, laundry
room & shower sign-up. Organizes toiletries, clothing,
and other in-kind donations. Assists with light clerical
duties & basic maintenance of the center. Flexible
hours available between 7am-9pm.
Morning
Receptionist—Answers phones and directs
calls for staff and guests appropriately. Serves as
a friendly first-point of contact for guests and visitors.
Occasional clerical/data entry tasks. Monitors registration
lists and reception area Ability to multi-task, sense
of humor, and a willingness to interact with guests
a must. Volunteers needed Monday-Friday, 9am-1pm.
Mail
Service Assistant – Retrieves, sorts
and distributes client mail; organizes and staffs ‘post
office’, and assists clients with all postal related
needs (i.e.. mailing letters, change of address cards,
etc.). Volunteers needed 11am-3pm.
Adult
Education Instructors—Facilitates 1-hour
weekly small group class setting, according to parenting,
life skills, or health education curriculum. Must make
an 8-week commitment (minimum). Ideal for persons who
enjoy working in groups, and who want to help people
reach their potential. Volunteers needed on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Saturdays (morning or afternoon).
Adult
Activities—Facilitates activities for
adults that address social and recreational needs, and
that encourages good mental & physical health. Examples
include basic exercise classes, crafts, book clubs,
etc. Volunteers needed on weekends and weekday evenings.
Flexible schedules available.
Parent
Mentors—Volunteers are assigned to a
one-on-one relationship with a parent to help them put
into practice skills & techniques learned in parenting
classes. Specialized volunteer training required. Actual
parents preferred, but not required. Minimum of 4 contacts
per month (by phone or in person) with client.
Children’s
Activities—Works with an AmeriCorps Activity
Coordinator to offer engaging activities for preschool
& school-aged children, within a structured setting.
Offers age-appropriate activities that foster creativity
and imagination. Volunteers needed 2pm-8pm. Flexible
schedule available.
Meal
Helpers—Helps prepare breakfast (7 am—9
am), lunch (11 am—2 pm) and dinner (5 pm—9
pm). Prepares vegetables and food. Sets up and cleans
dining area. Serves meals to guests. Sorts and organizes
food donations, and cleans dishes and kitchen area after
meals.
First Step: Attend a VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION! During one
of these sessions, you can learn the facts about homelessness
in your community, how Sarah's Hope meets the needs
of persons experiencing homelessness, and how you can
be a part of fostering 'hope' in the lives of those
in need. Regular orientation sessions will be held:

1st Saturday of every month, 9:00-10:00 AM
- 2nd
Thursday of every month, 6:00-7:00 PM
Volunteers
must be at least 13 years of age or older,
and must attend an orientation session. Community service
opportunities are available to youth for educational
and/or religious purposes.
