JustService Projects

JustService invites faith communities, schools, businesses, and other groups to participate in the mission of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore to help our neighbors in need.  Below are JustService projects that make a concrete and meaningful difference in the lives of the people we serve.  JustService is suitable for any size or age group.

Also, St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore is can provide a presentation or materials to lead a discussion with your group to enhance your JustService experience.  Topics can include faith-based service, poverty and homelessness, Catholic Social Teaching, information about our community service programs, and several other topics.

JustService Projects:

  • Adopt-a-Classroom – Bring cheer to the 3 and 4-year olds attending SVDP Head Start!  All of our classrooms are in need of basic educational supplies: crayons, coloring books, craft supplies, and books.  You can also choose a small gift for each child in the class that they will receive as a special holiday present.  Each classroom has 20 children.  Click here for promotional flyer
  • Warm Hats, Warm Hearts - Many of our guests at the Beans & Bread Center, Head Start and Sarah’s Hope do not have gloves and hats to keep warm during the winter months.  Share the gift of warmth this winter by donating new hats and gloves in men's, women's, and children's sizes.  Click here for promotional flyer
  • Let’s Do Lunch – Make brown bag lunches for our hungry neighbors.  St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore distributes hundreds of bag lunches every day at the Beans & Bread Center and Sarah’s Hope.  Will your school, parish, or business make between 50 and 300 bag lunches?  We suggest the following contents for lunches:  1) a sandwich with meat and/or cheese –  please no mayonnaise or peanut butter & jelly, 2) a piece of fruit and /or snack, and 3) a room temperature drink such as a juice box.  You can decorate the bags or put in an uplifting note for our guests.  Click here for promotional flyer
  • Project Fresh Start - St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore distributes over 200 personal care bags each month to our homeless guests at the Beans & Bread Center.  The following items are always in high demand:  Shampoo, Bars of Soap, Disposable rasors, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, and Deodorant.  Items can be collected individually or put together in ziploc bags containing one of each item.  Click here for promotional flyer
  • No Bottom Left Behind - Did you know the average child will use more than 2,700 diapers in the first year of life?  The mothers at Sarah’s Hope, a shelter for women and children operated by St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, need diapers and related supplies: Disposable diapers (all sizes), Baby wipes, and Pull-ups training pants. How to Begin a JustService Project:

  • Assess the interests of your group, choose a JustService project from the list above, and name a project coordinator from your group.
  • Establish a start and end date for your project, as well as a visible collection point(s) for your group, e.g. entrance to your church or school.
  • Print the relevant JustService project flyer, post it in visible areas, and send it to members of your group.  Be sure to include the start and end dates, collection point(s), and contact information of the group coordinator.
  • Wrap up your JustService project on the appointed end date and deliver items as agreed upon by your group coordinator and St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore.
