YouthPlace
at St. Ambrose
YouthPlace
offers after-school and evening social development and
academic services to youth and teens ages 6-18. Social
development services strengthen participants bonds to
adults, peers, and the community by helping them develop
necessary social skills such as problem solving, decision
making, communication, peer resistance and conflict
resolution. YouthPlace programs seek to increase academic
performance and strengthen participants' commitment
to education through tutoring, computer instruction,
a book club, and SAT prep.
The After-School Program serves 80 elementary and middle
school students and seeks to maintain high levels of
attendance, participation, and positive outcomes. The
Teen Program serves 25 high school-age students and
is designed to encourage teens to join together in a
secure environment 3 nights a week.
YouthPlace offers snacks, educational field trips, homework
time, guest speakers and focus groups. In the summer,
a camp is offered for the after-school youth, and the
teens participate in internships.
YouthPlace is based at St. Ambrose Center in the Southern
Park Heights community in Baltimore City. Founded in
1972, St. Ambrose Center works with the community to
improve the lives of low-income individuals, families,
and children. Each year, the Center reaches more than
40,000 persons with its broad scope of services.
