(Baltimore, MD — 8/28/2022) St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore has been selected as a charity partner with Safeway of Baltimore County to receive donations from their annual Nourishing Neighbors campaign, intended to ensure that every child has access to a healthy breakfast. All donations made at the four participating Safeway stores will be used to support St. Vincent de Paul’s Good Harvest program, which provides healthy meals to those impacted by food insecurity throughout the Baltimore region.

“With school back in session, it’s more important than ever to make sure that all Baltimore-area children can start their day with a healthy breakfast,” said Majid Zaghari, Vice President of Good Harvest Community Kitchen. “The Safeway Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors initiative will help us continue the work we do in providing nutritious meals to children in need.”

St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore has been mitigating the impact of poverty since 1865. Last year it provided more than 1.2 million nutritious meals to at-risk Baltimore residents, including 575,985 meals to Head Start and Early Head Start children, and 117,836 meals delivered to after-school programs. Over the summer, St. Vincent de Paul was awarded a $8,250 grant from Nourishing Neighbors to prepare and deliver thousands of meals to Baltimore communities.

Nourishing Neighbors aims to keep food banks stocked by supporting meal distribution at schools and through programs like Good Harvest. With as many as one in four children in America at risk of hunger, the funds raised in September will support St. Vincent de Paul’s goal of ensuring that every child has access to a healthy breakfast.

The four participating Safeway stores include Safeway at 5660 Baltimore National Pike, Safeway at 9645 Belair Road, Safeway at 8858 Waltham Woods Road, and Safeway at 1017 York Road. Anyone wishing to support St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore’s Good Harvest program can go to any one of these stores and make a donation to Nourishing Neighbors at checkout during the month of September.
