Help Support Youth Activities

Help a child grow to their full potential by volunteering at one of our programs. There are a variety of youth activity volunteer activities:

1. Adopt a Classroom – Support hundreds of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds across Baltimore City in our Head Start programs by purchasing items from our Amazon List.  These items will be used throughout the year to make sure the children we serve are given the highest level of education.  For more information, please visit our Adopt A Classroom page.

2. After School Tutors – Provide after-school homework help to children living in our family shelters. Interested volunteers should fill out an application and will need a background check.

3. Youth & Family Activities at Shelters – Volunteers are needed at our family shelters on weekday evenings, weekends and during “out-of-school” time (school vacations, holidays, etc.) to help with activities including: arts & crafts, movie nights, monthly birthday bash, family fun nights, and more.  Activities can be led by individuals or groups.  Interested volunteers should fill out an application and will need a background check.  Please note volunteers must be 16+ to serve onsite or 13+ is they are accompanied by a guardian. 4. Volunteer for our Head Start Program
You can make contributions to the Head Start Program by donating materials through our Amazon Wishlist, attending meetings and volunteering in the program.

Volunteering at Head Start provides volunteers with an opportunity to help with reading, art, music, and play activities in the classroom, front desk reception, field trips (chaperone), mealtime assistance, and Policy Council representation.

Please note that while volunteers are always welcomed at SVDP Head Start, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of all children and staff.  In maintaining this safety, all regular volunteers (anyone volunteering 6 or more hours a week) must be 18 years or older and complete the following:

• Complete Volunteer Application
• Background Check
• TB Testing Background check completed by SVDP Form

• Orientation & Training
