My goal is to help others avoid making the same mistakes I did at a young age. I always answer their questions honestly, and they remember what I say.

Carroll’s Story

A story to remember.

Carroll struggled with addiction and endured chronic homelessness for years. In the winter of 1992, he came to Beans & Bread for a hot meal. Since then, Carroll has received help obtaining identification cards, clothing, bus passes, as well as a referral to the recovery program that helped him get sober.

Carroll has also found lifelong friends at Beans & Bread. Since 1993, Carroll and his friends have been traveling to schools around Baltimore City to talk to students about addiction and homelessness. “My goal is to help others avoid making the same mistakes I did at a young age.” Over the years, Carroll has watched his students grow up from elementary school when he first met them. “I always answer their questions honestly, and they remember what I say.”

In addition to his work with students, Carroll cuts hair at senior living facilities and helps set up tables for food service at churches around the area.
